Under den anden verdenskrig anlagde den tyske værnemagt et udstrakt system af bunkersanlæg langs den jydske vestkyst.
Det var et led i Atlantvolden, der strakte sig fra den franske kanalkyst til norspidsen af Norge.
Sommeren 1944 påbegyndte man derfor opførslen af 2 kanonbunkere, der skulle beskytte indsejlingen til Esbjerg Havn.
Stillingen blev imidlertid aldrig færdig inden krigen sluttede 5. maj 1945.
Bunkeren er nu indrettet som museum
During the Second World War, the German Wehrmacht built an extensive system of bunkers along the west coast of Jutland as a part of the Atlantic Wall, which stretched from the French Channel coast to Nordkapp in Norway.
In the summer of 1944, therefore, the building of Battery Tirpitz was begun. The battery was supposed to cover the entrance to the habour of Esbjerg.
However, the battery was never completed before the liberation on May 5th, 1945.
The bunker is now a museum
