[ENG] This beautiful old Opel Kapitän BJ. approx. 1958 someone has put here in his garage. So it seems. The picture is well hit.
The Opel Kapitän P 2.5 appeared in July 1958 at a price of 10,250 DM, with a 2.5-litre engine and an output of 80 hp (59 kW). There was also an L-version (surcharge 750 DM) and an overdrive gearbox (surcharge 650 DM) available.
The styling of the body with rich chrome ornamentation, the rear fins and panoramic windows in front and rear was very similar to American cars of that time, which is one of the reasons why it was only accepted by German buyers to a very limited extent. The colour choice of the paintwork was plentiful. Because of the keyhole-shaped tail lights, this model is called "Schlüssellochkapitän" (keyhole captain) today, sometimes also as Kapitän "P 1" (the "P" stood for the panorama windows).
Because of the roof sloping sharply at the rear, the rear panorama window and the somewhat narrow doors, getting into the rear seat was uncomfortable for adults. In addition, the rear passengers' view to the side was limited and the low roof resulted in a poor view to the rear, which also restricted headroom.
From July 1958 to June 1959 34,842 Captain P 2.5 were built.
