The Peace River is a 106 mile long river that originates in Polk County and flows southerly until it empties into Charlotte Harbor. It has a drainage basin of approximately 1400 square miles and provides flood control and fresh water to the Charlotte Harbor. Charlotte Harbor is the second largest bay in Florida and empties into the Gulf of Mexico.

This waymark is easy to reach by going to the Ponce de Leon Park in Punta Gorda. A large parking lot is available. It's a short walk to the coordinates spot. A playground, beach, picnic area, nature boardwalk, fishing pier, boat ramp, restrooms and numerous other waymarks are within the park.
