The family name, "Mankins", is on the plinth, and at the top of the monument is an open book, either a Bible or the Book of Life, with a funeral shroud hanging off of one corner. "Peace Perfect Peace" is below the arch of the Gate to Heaven, with an anchor -- a symbol of hope -- suspended in the air below it. The inscription reads:
