This war memorial is a bronze statue on a marble base. The inscriptions in the marble are not particularly legible due to discoloration and deterioration through the years. "De Amsterdamse beeldhouwer Hubert van Lith maakte een bronzen beeld van liggende, naakte man. Het gedenkteken werd in 1949 opgericht ter nagedachtenis aan omgekomen Briellenaren, in het bijzonder Gerritjan van de Boogerd (25-7-1944), Pieter Oranje (8-3-1945) en Pieter van de Wallen (18-2-1945). Hun namen zijn aangebracht op de marmeren sokkel, waarop ook dichtregels te lezen zijn van Albert Verwey."

Dit oorlogsmonument stond voorheen aan de Floris van de Bergsingel (bij de rotondes), maar heeft enkele jaren geleden een nieuwe plek gekregen naast de ingang van de Sint-Catharijnekerk. Jaarlijks wordt op 4 mei (Dodenherdenking) een krans gelegd ter nagedachtenis aan de slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

This war memorial was formerly located at the Floris van de Bergsingel (near the roundabouts), but has been given a new location next to the entrance of the Sint-Catharijnekerk. Every year on May 4 (Commemoration of the Dead) a wreath is laid in memory of the victims of the Second World War.
