"The orientation table shows the locations and movements of the French (blue) and German (red) troops. The defences extended from Ottignies to Bovesse.

The Battle of Gembloux was fought between the French Army and the Germans from 14 to 15 May 1940 during the French campaign in the Second World War.

It represents a short-lived tactical victory that allows to delay the German advance, ending however with a French retreat. However, at this point, the Germans had not yet achieved the decisive strategic victory they had been seeking since the Sedan breakthrough."
