The Sint-Catharijnekerk, also known as the "Brielse Dom", is the eye-catcher of Brielle. Wherever you approach Brielle, you can see her from afar. Construction started in the 13th century with the aim of making it the largest church in the Netherlands. However, due to a fire and the exhaustion of money, the church was never completely finished. In 1572 the statues and altars were robbed or destroyed by the Watergeuzen (Water beggars) and William of Orange married on June 12, 1575 to his third wife Charlotte de Bourbon. A stained-glass window, known as the Orange window, recalls this marriage.

During the summer months, the church can be visited and the tower can be climbed. 382 Steps will take you over 57 meters high, after which you can enjoy a magnificent view over the city, the surrounding polders, the Brielse Meer (Lake Brielle) and the enormous industrial areas behind it.
