"Often overlooked, the Saint-Julien fountain, nestled in lush greenery 150 meters from the church of the same name, is one of the most charming places in Courtisols.

It was the seat of a custom observed until 1890. Each year, in the afternoon following mid-Lent, the majority of farmers went there to scrape off the mud covering the bottom of the basin before drinking a sip of spring water.

This practice, reported by Mr. Charlier de Courtisols to the Société d'Agriculture, Commerce, Sciences et Arts de la Marne, would have had the virtue of preventing the fountain from drying up and preserving thirst during summer work. "
