Estação Caminho-de-ferro

[PT]

"During the planning phase of the Northern Line, in the 1850s, the French engineer Wattier studied two hypotheses for the part of the line from the Aveiro area to Vila Nova de Gaia, one of which was to follow the real road from Avelãs de Caminho, passing through Albergaria and Oliveira de Azeméis, and then follow the Avintes valley to the bank of the Douro River, ending in Quebrantões. However, this route was not used, having instead chosen a route that made the line circulate almost entirely along the coast, similar to Wattier's first option.

In May 1894, Francisco Ferreira Palha had already submitted to the government the preliminary project for the section of Espinho to Rio Caima, in which the construction of a station called Valle Maior, along the road from Aveiro to Viseu, was planned, with the purpose of serving Albergaria, which would be one of the main locations to be served by the future Vouga Line.

On February 15, 1900, the Network Plan to the North of the Mondego was decreed, which included the Vouga Line, with the branch to Aveiro leaving Albergaria-a-Velha. In 1903 the Minister of Public Works, the Count of Paçô Vieira, approved the project for the Linha do Vouga, having signed the beginning of the branch to Aveiro in Sernada do Vouga.

On April 1, 1909, the Oliveira de Azeméis branch to Albergaria-a-Velha entered service, while the section from Albergaria to Aveiro was opened on September 8, 1911. In 1913, this interface appeared with the Albergaria a Velha.

In 1933, a regional exhibition was held at Albergaria-a-Velha Station, within the scope of the 1st Regional Railway Congress. "
