Gravity Park and the Gravity Railroad Historic Site-Gravity Park was established by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad on the site of what was formerly a portion of the roadbed of Plane No. 1. The Delaware and Hudson Canal Company’s Gravity Railroad from Carbondale to Honesdale opened on October 9, 1829. By which the D&H sent many millions of tons of anthracite coal to the markets in the New York/New England area during the nineteenth century. In 1899, this “Gravity” railroad was converted into a conventional steam locomotive line, which operated until 1930.
