The mausoleum of General Belgrano (died 1820) an be seen in front of the Basilic of Our Lady of the Rosary, in the center of Buenos Aires.
The original idea of creating a mausoleum for the General Belggrano apparently came in 1895, from a student (Gabriel L. Souto) when he and his colleagues were about to celebrate the 9th of July (Argentine Declaration of Independence).
During the cerimonies the student appealed to the crowd for donations. It was a success and the congress also contributed with a considerable amount of money.
The mausoleum was inaugurated on the 20th June 1903. The concept was created by the Italian architect Ettore Ximenes.
It is 9m high.
