From wikipedia:

The church was probably built on the harbor in the 13th or 14th century. In 1354 at least a church was dedicated to the Apostle Bartholomew. [1] It was originally a cross church and was extended to a hall church in 1658 and fitted with columns in the Doric style. According to a memorial stone in the church, the north cap was completely renovated in 1657 and the defects were repaired in 1658. After the Reformation in the 16th century, it became a Protestant church. The Catholics later built a new church on the Wal, which was also named after Bartholomew.

The tower dates from the 15th century. Because the tower became more and more plumb over time, it was suggested in the early 20th century to demolish the tower. [2] In the end it was decided to restore the church and tower. During the restoration, which lasted from 1927 to 1934, sixty concrete piles were driven to prevent the tower from falling over. The tower has since been about one and a half meters out of plumb. Since this restoration, the church has a very wide transept.

A choir partition serves as a 16th century renaissance oval, which before the Reformation served as a choir and organ stand and was subsequently converted into a gentleman's bench.

The church is used for the worship services of the Reformed Municipality of Schoonhoven.
