While dilapidation and a neglected sign are not necessarily an indication as to a congregation's status, a search on this church turns up practically nothing. There are no web-spidered listings, and notably, there are a few obituaries for long-time members whose funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church here in town. There are plenty of indications that
that church is still active.
There are two hypotheses as to how Loco got its name. One is that it derives from Latin locus, "the place", and the other is that locoweed is a common plant in the area, toxic to livestock.
