"The expansion of Belize City to the north in the mid-1800s necessitated the construction of a second church building. A small wooden building was erected on the north side of the town dedicated to St Mary the Virgin. It was consecrated by the evangelical Aubrey Spencer, Bishop of Jamaica, in 1852." (

A statue of the virgin in a wire gazebo is located in front of the portico of the church which is surmounted by a cross and two large stained glass windows. The simple interior has an altar surmounted by a cross and a piano in front of the nave to the right of the altar. The 10 Commandments and the Beatitudes are painted on the inside wall of the facade.
