As of this posting, this is the original and most popular of the Beth Marie's locations, occupying one side of a historic building on the National Register of Historic Places dating into the 1870s. Even though it can get a little cool in the winter months in Texas, they're open year 'round, but be aware that you're coming here for dessert or just a treat, as they offer only treats and sweets. If you've eaten here on the square and you still have room, this is the place.
Beth Marie's hand makes over 130 flavors, much of it using a machine from the 1920s. Besides finding their product in many other locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, fans can purchase Beth Marie's as far away as San Antonio, Houston, Georgetown, and Austin, thanks to H-E-B's Central Market chain, which carries pints of their ice cream. Their own locations offer more than a few dozen flavors at a given time, so you'll want to take a good look at what's in front of you, and a board up high behind the counter will tell you about any specials. There's no soft serve here, but they do have sherbet for those who don't or can't handle dairy: It's rather odd in Denton to not see a vegan option! In addition to the standard hand-dipped fare, they offer shakes, malts, fountain and phosphate sodas, regular sodas, iced tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bottled drinks, lemonade and limeade, floats, banana splits, ice cream sodas, egg cream, sundaes, cookies, brownies, and cobbler.
They've got a few tables here, as well as some stools at the soda fountain, but for best results, take your treat outside and go sit somewhere on the courthouse square and enjoy the scenery.
