The 42m Fremantle class Patrol Boat H.M.A.S. Gladstone was commissioned in September 1984 and was decommissioned in March 2006, in March 2007 the boat was handed over to the Gladstone Maritime History Society and lay anchored in a nearby marina until November 2017 when the vessel was lifted onto a cradle and became the centrepiece of the Maritime Museum.
The boat was based at Cairns for the entire 22 years of active service being used for fisheries protection, immigration, customs and drug law enforcement operations.
