Bluemel Road takes a long curved path past the property of the St. Francis Episcopal Church at 4242 Bluemel Rd., San Antonio, TX 78240. The ministry of this church has a strong community outreach as evidenced by their 27 large raised beds of widely variable verities of vegetables. There is also a Little Free Library for the folks in the community to get books to read while waiting for the plants to grow. To find the Little Free Library unit, park at the northeast end of the parking lot, then walk through the oak grove to the back end of the property, beside the education building. At some point you will see the raised beds of the International Community Garden. Look toward the bulletin board and you will see the Little Free Library next to it.
The little library unit is a brown-stained wooden square box with a sloped roof, which makes the front of the library a bit higher than the back of the box. All this is attached to a brown-stained 4x4 post. The book exchange is a few feet away from a large bulletin board built to post announcements about the International Community Garden that is a yard or two in front of both the library box and the billboard. There is no additional shelf built into the box, so the unit can hold oversized books, but all books will be arranged on the bottom part of the library. There were some children books available for reading or exchange at the time this unit was posted. Hopefully, more books will be donated over time.
The concept of the Little Free Library is for people within a community to stop by the unit and examine the selection of books at that time. If you see a book you'd like to read, feel free to take it out and take it with you. If you have books at home that you have already read, you are encouraged to take these books to a Little Free Library and donate them into any little library's book selection. This concept is summarized as: Take A Book: Return a Book. Feel free to take a book you want to read, and feel free to return a book or add a book to this exchange unit, or any others you know of. Your contribution of books keeps the sections varied and keeps the little libraries filled with books for others. Its is a win-win situation.
