This is a life-sized bronze buffalo (or bison) which stands on the southwest corner of the City Hall grounds. It is part of a dedication to Mayor John P. Purcell, who was mayor of Lawton for six years and was retiring in 2010.
What can you say about a buffalo sculpture. It is large, scary and a little menacing. It's standing under a group of trees with several large rocks, and is a pleasant sight at City Hall.
When the dedication plaque was placed, Mayor Purcell is quoted as saying "I hope it's on the front end of the buffalo and not on the back end of the buffalo. It really does. It really makes me feel good."
