This Church of England congregation dates back to 1853. This church building was opened for worship in 1860. It was the first English Church in the township of Gloucester (now part of Ottawa). Perhaps due to its rural setting, the early years were a challenge. Few services were held and the building was little used. In 1987, St. James' church finally became an independent parish.
