The lock and its associated equipment are Grade II listed with the entry at the Historic England website telling us:

Lock, reconstructed for 3rd time 1894-1904. By Sir John Wolfe Barry, engineer. Brick-lined with granite kerbs and iron bollards and capstans. Lock gates worked by hydraulic rams acting directly on the gates, an early use of this principle in Britain. The machinery preserved in situ. The raised lip at edge of granite lockside coping is a safety measure used previously at Liverpool. The hydraulic mechanisms were supplied in 1898 by Sir WG Armstrong, Mitchell and Co Ltd.
