The Fan pattern possibly originated from Japanese patterns coming to America in the 1800's as trade increased with Japan. Many variations exist: Dresden Plate, Friendship Ring, Grandmother's Sunburst, Fanny's Fan or Grandmother's Fan.

The building was built in 1934 as a general store.

The quilt square was created and painted by Melissa Nichol.
