Tesperhude House of the Dead - Tomb from the Middle Bronze Age around 1200 BC in the Tesperhude district of Geesthacht.

It was discovered in spring 1932 and excavated in 1933 under the direction of Karl Kersten (1909-1992). During the excavation of the burial mound located directly on the Elbe, the excavators came across a rectangular stone package with post-holes and two grave hollows, in which the tree coffins were placed, in which a young woman and a two-year-old child had been buried. The tree coffins and the wooden, clay-covered mortuary, about 3.60 m wide at the gable end, had been burned at the funeral service. Afterwards a mound of earth had been piled up over the remains of the fire.

The builders of the mortuary at Grünhof-Tesperhude were under the influence of the Lüneburg Group, which had already existed in the Early Bronze Age from about 1500 to 1200 BC, had stretched from the Lüneburg Heath across the Weser River to the Wildeshausen Geest, and whose subsequent central Lüneburg Group was later still widespread in the Middle Bronze Age from about 1200 to 1100 BC in the Ilmenau area and in parts of the North Heath (northwest of the Lüneburg Heath).
