Father Jacob Sedelmaye named Agua Caliente - which means hot water - in 1744. The hot springs were used by Indians as soothing water therapy. In 1873, Agua Caliente was a draw to the people migrating to the area - they came from everywhere. To protect the business, the owners defended the place with dynamite. As farming expanded in the area, the draw down of the underground aquifer caused the hot springs to dry up.

Today, all that is left of Agua Caliente is the hotel, the ruins of stone houses, and one swimming pool(empty) in disuse. The hotel was built in 1897 and had 22 spa rooms. It is now boarded up and posted with no trespassing signs.

During WWII, the soothing waters were sought out by the military members from nearby Fort Horn - officers only, of course.

Agua Caliente first appeared as a precinct in Arizona in the 1910 census and again in 1930, but not after that.
