The sculpture commemorates singer and songwriter Woody Guthrie, who lived in Pampa from 1929 to 1936. The sculpture was sponsored by Pampa Area Foundation for Outdoor Art. Pampa elementary school music teacher, Wanetta Hill transposed Guthrie's musical score to the key of G, 4/4 time for a more artistic arrangement."
