Mitten auf dem Lechenicher Marktplatz steht das sogenannte "Geschichtsdenkmal", eine etwa fünf Meter hohe Bronzeskulptur in Säulenform. Die viereckige und nach oben dünner werdende Säule hat ein spiralförmiges Band eingraviert, in dem bedeutende geschichtliche Ereignisse des Ortes bildlich dargestellt werden. Dazu gehören unter anderem gefundene Überreste aus der Römerzeit, die Stadtgründung 1279 oder die drei großen Stadtbrände im 18. Jahrhundert.

Das Denkmal wurde von der chilenischen Bildhauerin Maria Fernandez geschaffen und 1996 auf dem Marktplatz eingeweiht. Es steht seitdem mitten auf dem Platz zwischen dem Historischen Rathaus und der Alten Pumpe. Finanziert wurde es durch die Kulturstiftung Sparkasse Köln sowie aus privaten Spenden, deren Namen auf einer Bronzetafel vor dem Denkmal verewigt sind.
In the middle of the Lechenich market square is the so-called "Geschichtsdenkmal" (i.e. history monument), an approximately five meter high bronze sculpture in the shape of a column. The square pillar, which is becoming thinner at the top, is engraved with a spiral band in which important historical events of the town are depicted. These include found remains from the Roman era, the city foundation in 1279 or the three major city fires in the 18th century.

The monument was created by Chilean sculptor Maria Fernandez and inaugurated in 1996 on the market square. Since then it has stood in the middle of the square between the historic town hall and the old water pump. It was financed by the foundation Kulturstiftung Sparkasse Köln and private donations, the names of which are immortalized on a bronze plaque in front of the monument.
