The land is managed by the Forestry Commission, England.
It is perhaps difficult to imagine that the park before you today was a working colliery less than 100 years ago (production stopped in the 1960s). In fact, it is thanks to this former use that we have been able to develop so many different and valuable habitats for wildlife here at Ashton's Field.
The land has been divided into a number of areas such as heathland, wetland and woodland and hedgerow.
