Smithsonian Art Inventory

"A three-sided fountain structure with elevated basins, one on each side, each under a scalloped hood. Each corner is fashioned into a column with a Corinthian top. The structure is topped with an orb and three fish, their tails draped over the orb and heads pointing out to each corner. Scrolled wedges brace each corner at the bottom of the structure. Two steps lead up to all sides of the base.

The fountain was a gift to the City of Galveston from Henry Rosenberg, a wealthy banker who provided $30,000 in his will for "the erection of not less than ten drinking fountains for man and beast."
