"Cette chapelle est édifiée à la fin du XVIIIe siècle sur le point culminant de l'île, à 33 mètres au dessus du niveau de la mer.
Beaucoup d 'édifices dédiés à l'Archange Saint-Michel ont ainsi été édifiés sur des points culminants.
Pendant la Révolution, la chapelle est utilisée comme corps de garde et magasin à poudre ; la bâtisse attenante est probablement construite à cette époque pour servir comme dépôt des ustensiles de batteries.
La chapelle est reconstruite en 1860.
Du fait de la couleur blanche de ses murs et de son toit en tuiles de couleur orange, l'édifice a longtemps servi d'amer pour la navigation.
La chapelle a été entièrement restaurée il y a quelques années." (
