The Bandera Convention and Visitors Bureau, AKA: Bandera Visitors Center, is a native stone building with parking in front of it for 6-8 cars. The staff is wonderfully helpful, the kind of folks that take you in and make you feel genuinely welcomed. There are clean RestRooms available to the left, once inside the Visitors Center. To the right is the staff's office area, and straight ahead from the door is the guest room with maps, samples, and tables and chairs for browsing the information on local and state places and activities.
I went in because I was curious about a green informational sign I saw along FM 173 (Main Street) on my way to stop here. The sign read:
"HOYTW 041
Heart of Texas
Wildlife Trail - West"
and the sign had an image of a Roadrunner below the text.
I love diving trails, so as soon as I entered the Visitors Center and was ask if they could help me, I immediately asked about getting information on the Heart of Texas Wildlife Trail - West. One staff member began explaining it was not a trail like the Texas Hill Country Trail, which is an auto road trip trail, but the Wildlife trail is more a series of independent locations within an area where wildlife of various kinds can be seen and viewed at select properties. The other staff member then produced a 3x3 foot color map and information guide showing all the Heart of Texas Wildlife Trail - West locations with short lists of what to see at each stopping place. It was a wonderful experience to meet and talk to the Tourist Center staff! I also was offered a free booklet of all the Texas State Parks. I felt like I'd hit the jackpot!
