FR Historique

The Cordeliers convent was built in the 13th century, around 1236, on the site of an old Benedictine priory.
It is one of the first Franciscan foundations in Provence. It was built in a house given by Raymond Bérenger V of Provence, count of Forcalquier.
The convent was damaged during the wars of religion, poorly maintained thereafter, it collapsed, and had only two religious during the French Revolution. In 1791, deserted by the monks, it was sold as national property and transformed into a farm.
Become property of the town, it is restored from 1963.

Description
The facade of the church is located under the building of the old Post Office. There still remains, around the reconstructed Gothic cloister (early 14th century), all the convent halls and a secondary chapel from the 15th century, an ossuary and a crypt. The oratory houses a carved wooden Madonna and Child from the 15th century. The cloister overlooks a medieval garden, the convent halls have kept their furniture, their statuary. The library has an original ceiling, the scriptorium is located next to it. The terrace offers a vast panorama. Finally, the vestiges of the church remain.
The convent is currently the seat of the European University of Scents and Flavors but the chapel has kept its religious character.
