Fizz and Chips has opened at the old Rumba site
Newly opened Fizz and Chips sells one of Britain's most popular delicacies - but lets you have a pint of beer or a glass of Prosecco while you wait.
The Lawton Street chippy in Congleton is the latest in a line of venues operated by South Cheshire based Life and Soul - the group behind The Castle Inn, and Rumba.
Having already tackled the bar scene, and opening a new and larger Rumba, the group needed something to replace the old branch underneath its head offices.
So it decided to transform the former tiki bar into a modern looking chip shop that serves a range of drinks - including local gin.
Life and Soul managing director Martin Holmes said: “We were looking for something to do with this site after moving Rumba and realised there isn’t a chip shop in the town centre so we wanted to do something different.
“We wanted to be a good quality fish and chip shop but people can get a pint of Estrella or a glass of Prosecco while they wait. We even have our own Cloud Gin inspired by the Cloud near Bosley.
“We’ve been going just over a month and it has been going good. The group now employs 140 people in East Cheshire and Fizz and Chips has created 10 additional jobs - we’ve even signed up with Macclesfield College to deliver apprenticeships and have 30 people across Life and Soul doing a level two.”
Fizz and Chips is the latest venue to be joining The Sentinel’s Shop Local scheme. It will be offering readers free chips with every large fish on presentation of a voucher available in Monday’s paper.
Martin, aged 39, added: “We have a lot of healthy options as well like salads and couscous, it’s not all about battered cod. We know a lot of fish and chip shops now do a gluten free day but we can do gluten free seven days a week.”
As well as a gluten free range Fizz and Chips is also able to cater to vegans and other dietary requirements.
