A small inset photo shows the home "back in the day" -- it looks like it was taken from across the river -- and the sign reads:

Capt. J.J. Farr, lawyer and Confederate veteran, was the first man and his family that we are aware of who lived this 1870's-vintage home, one of the earliest permanent dwellings in Glen Rose. The builder is unknown. Atypical of the area, this house has a full basement, which took considerable engineering know-how to make it sound and water tight. This house is a representation of the readily-available limestone for structures in this area of Texas.

In the 1880s, Capt. Farr added a two-story ell to the stone structure, enlarging the home to twice its size. When the county bought this property in the 1990s, it was torn away.

Capt. Farr served in Co. I, 12th Mississippi Infantry with the C.S.A. during the Civil War. He practice law in Granbury before coming to Glen Rose. His son J.H. Farr went on to become Somervell County Judge from 1912-1914.
