Brandenburg's architecture is shaped by medieval churches with tall steeples and by even older town gates, protected by massive towers. Only very few of these towers are open year-long for visitors. Most of them are closed, either for safety reasons or simply to protect them as architectural treasures.

But once a year, all of the city's towers are open in an event, that started in 2000 and has grown in popularity ever since, Brandenburg's Tower Day

This article in the town's leading newspaper is about the 2019 Tower Day. Here is a partial translation:

Brandenburg's most active tower climbers

The 18th edition of the Tower Day was a full succeeds. 7,268 visits to the town's towers were registered - last year it was only 6,911. Most popular with 1,114 visits was the Water Tower, followed by the Stone Gate Tower and the Tower of St. Peter and Paul.

The 13 most active climbers received non-cash prices. Nine people had to share in rank one, having climbed 21 towers, followed by four people who managed to climb 20 towers.
