The commemorative plaque to celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, is located facing the war memorial in Barlaston.
The plaque is mounted on a boulder of Hollingstone stone and surrounded by a small garden of heathers, and backed by an oak tree.
The plaque details where ‘Diamond Jubilee’ trees have been planted and where time capsules have been buried in the Village.
The plaque is inscribed as follows;
'This stone is to Commemorate The Diamond Jubilee of
Queen Elizabeth II 1952-2012
In the village of Barlaston are planted eleven trees and eight time capsules.
A map with the locations is detailed beneath the wording on the plaque.'
A report by Gareth Jones, 30th May 2012 - Barlaston Parish Council reads as follows;
"The morning of Wednesday 30th May saw a lot of activity on the Village Green. A boulder of Hollingstone stone has been placed in an area on the opposite side of the road to the War Memorial. A plaque is affixed which shows where all the ‘Diamond Jubilee’ trees have been planted and where the time capsules buried in the Village.
The children of Barlaston First School came across class by class to plant heathers around the stone and the Parish Councillors buried a strong box which contained a good indication of Barlaston life in 2012.
The contents of the box will provide a challenge to social historians of the future, particularly if they are from another planet."
