8th Street Grille
20 West 8th Street
This Victorian Romanesque building
was designed and constructed by
James Huntley in 1898. It was originally
the site of the Van der Veen
clothing store and later Hansen Drug Store,
which occupied the building for almost
40 years. Faced with locally quarried
Waverly Stone , the structure proudly
displays ornately detailed oriel windows
with convex glass.
Current business is The Waverly Stone Gastropub.

An oriel window is a form of bay window which protrudes from the main wall of a building but does not reach to the ground. Supported by corbels, brackets, or similar, an oriel window is most commonly found projecting from an upper floor but is also sometimes used on the ground floor.
