Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers shot and killed a man Wednesday after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in Moore.

Shortly before 11:40 a.m., troopers learned that a black Chevrolet Tahoe had been reported stolen out of Purcell. About 15 minutes later, two troopers spotted the Tahoe traveling north on Interstate 35 and a pursuit ensued, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials.

The suspect vehicle got off the interstate at the exit for Shields Avenue in Moore and the driver lost control of the vehicle, leaving the road and traveling through a median before crashing into a light pole on the north side of Northwest 27th Street.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said the pursuit lasted five minutes.

After the driver left his vehicle, two troopers discharged their weapons and struck the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The troopers involved were not hurt and have been placed on leave.

Authorities have not released information about the man who was killed.

Officials with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said they are investigating why shots were fired. It’s unclear at this time if the driver was armed.
