The address of Colonial Park can be entered as either West University Place or as Houston.
The Colonial Park is used actively by the neighborhood residents. It has two tennis courts, a swimming pool, a volleyball court, a large, fenced, children's playground with modern equipment to stimulate activity and growth,a pavilion for group activities, and a walking/jogging path.
Between the playground and the walking pathway is where the Little Free Library is found. It is an impressively large, professionally constructed library exchange that is modeled after the West University Elementary School not too far away from the park. This was done to celebrate the elementary school's 90th anniversary of service to this community in 2015. A plaque on the proper right side of the structure attributes: " Sponsored by Roger Martin Properties." On the face of the glass on the door on its proper right has the text: "West University Elementary, Founded 1925." and on the proper left window glass is etched: "Always a Gift Never for Sale" around the circular arch above an below the text in the middle that reads "Little Free Library, Colonial Park #26156, West University Pl. TX." There is a shelf transversing the middle of the box but this has several vertical boards dividing the long shelf into smaller sections so the books can either be organized but topic or size, or functions simply to keep the books upright for easy viewing of the title on the spines. Finally, on the box's proper left side is the plaque giving the information about this being a registered unit with the Little Free Library organization with the charter number 26151.
The concept of the Little Free Library is for people within a community to stop by the unit and examine the selection of books at that time. If you see a book you'd like to read, feel free to take it out and take it with you. If you have books at home that you have already read, you are encouraged to take these books to a Little Free Library and donate them into any little library's book selection. This concept is summarized as: Take A Book: Return a Book. Feel free to take a book you want to read, and feel free to return a book or add a book to this exchange unit, or any others you know of. Your contribution of books keeps the sections varied and keeps the little libraries filled with books for others. Its is a win-win situation.
There is not geocache in or on this Little Free Library unit. However, a geocache is located 197 feet NW of the book exchange. close to the tennis courts.
