This bronze cap marker dates to an early survey of public lands in the Phoenix area. It is located on State Trust Land and the current lessee has established a cattle corral surrounding it. The land supporst .25 cows per acre. The pipe extends about nine inches above current ground level. The embossing on the cap reads: US General Land Office Survey 1914 Penalty $250 for Removal. There is a centering cross mark. With time, the engraving around it has deteriorated but I believe it to read in the upper left quadrant R9E S13, the right upper quadrant R9E S18, The lower left quadrant S24 R8E, the lower right quadrant S19 R9E. The marker is located approximately 1.98 miles south of the southern edge of the U.S. 60 following the abandoned Barkley Road alignment at an angle of 180 degrees and 2.06 miles west of the southern edge of the U.S. 60 at an angle of 90 degrees.
