In Greek mythology, Tritons were mermen. They were depicted after the Greek God Triton, a son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Most common attribute of Tritons was a shell turned into a horn - the Triton's Trumpet.
A group of four Tritons, together with nymph Galatea is displayed in a small park in Brandenburg, Germany. The group is believed to have been created by Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini. |
