Das Amtsgericht direkt am Marktplatz von Lechenich wurde 1896 nach Plänen des Regierungsbaumeisters Hermann Weisstein gebaut. Es nahm zum 1. Juli 1897 seinen Betrieb auf und war für Gerichtsverfahren in dem damals neu gegründeten Gerichtsbezirk Erp, Friesheim, Gymnich, Lechenich und Liblar zuständig. Das Gebäude beinhaltete neben dem Gerichtssaal auch einen Gefängnistrakt mit sieben Zellen. Bis 1897 wurde das Bonner Tor als Gefängnis genutzt, mit dem Bau des Amtsgericht wurden die Arrestzellen dort überflüssig.

1983 wurde der Gerichtsbezirk aufgelöst und die Region dem Amtsgericht Brühl unterstellt. Aus Platzmangel in Brühl wurden dennoch noch bis 1992 Prozesse in Lechenich abgehalten. Danach wurde das Haus verkauft, heute befindet sich das Restaurant "Amtsgericht" sowie Büros in dem Gebäude.

Das Amtsgericht gilt als bedeutendes Beispiel der preußischen Justizbauten und steht daher unter Denkmalschutz. Es ist im neugotischen Stil als Backsteingebäude errichtet worden und ist bis heute vollständig und unverändert erhalten geblieben.
The district court right on the market square in Lechenich was built in 1896 according to plans by the government architect Hermann Weisstein. It went into operation on July 1, 1897 and was responsible for legal proceedings in the then newly founded judicial district of Erp, Friesheim, Gymnich, Lechenich and Liblar. In addition to the courtroom, the building also contained a seven-cell prison wing. Until 1897, the Bonner Tor was used as a prison, with the construction of the district court, the detention cells there became superfluous.

In 1983 the judicial district was dissolved and the region placed under the district court of Brühl. Due to lack of space in Brühl, processes were still held in Lechenich until 1992. Then the house was sold, today the restaurant "Amtsgericht" and offices are in the building.

The district court is considered an important example of the Prussian judicial buildings and is therefore a listed building. It was built in the neo-Gothic style as a brick building and has been preserved completely and unchanged until today.
