Simon de Wit was a chain of grocery stores that was founded in 1916. There was also a shop in Bergen op Zoom, here at the Steenbergsestraat. In 1929 an advertising drawing was made on the facade here. This was painted over a number of times, including in 1959. A total of three drawings have been here painted over each other. Over time, the second drawing has completely disappeared.
What was left are mostly parts of the first drawing. In 2011, the drawing that was still there was preserved as well as possible with the help of subsidies.
In 2021, large parts had faded again and the remaining drawing was restored again. The Municipality of Bergen op Zoom tries to restore one old mural per year.
A few years ago, for example, an advertising drawing for the cigarette brand Miss Blanche was restored.
