The Boondocks Lounge apparently will have new life.
Nancy Kuhlmann, the owner/operator of Nancy's Fort Lowell Pub, applied for a state liquor license last week for Boondocks, 3306 N. First Ave. County records show that Khulmann bought the nearly 5,000-square-foot property; the liquor license listed the new name as Nancy's Boondocks.
Kuhlmann could not be reached earlier today for comment.
Boondocks, which dates back to the early 1970s, has been closed since late last September. It was one of the only venues for blues music in Tucson.
Meanwhile former owners Bill and Cathy Warner, who ran the restaurant for more than 20 years, are hiding out at the Hideout Saloon East, 1110 S. Sherwood Village Drive, near East 22nd Street and South Pantano Road. Cathy Warner on Monday said the couple has been inviting some of the blues and roots bands that played Boondocks to play the Hideout including Heather Hardy and Bryan Dean, who had a standing weekly gig for years at Boondocks.
Warner said they also are booking east-side bands. The couple took over management of the bar in December.
Boondocks is located around the corner from Kuhlmann's 16-year-old neighborhood bar, 746 E. Fort Lowell Road.
