Classified as one of only two Ultra peaks in South Africa.
Most hikers tackle this from the South Side. Its about 12 kms from the bottom to the top. There is a basic shelter near the bottom and most people overnight in a cave about 300 metres below the summit.
The Northern route is about 6 kms so it is feasible to summit and return down again in a day from that side.
Particularly on the South side it has been known to find ice and snow near the top even in Summer months.
There are no fees payable to climb this mountain but permission should be sought from the landowners at the bottom to access their properties.Notice of intent to climb and permission should also be sought from Mr Jan Viljoen ( details to be found at (
visit link) )
