The parish of Carmyllie is a largely rural area to the north-west of the Angus coastal town of Arbroath and its war memorial is situated in an open rural location overlooking the North Sea coast which lies five miles to the south-east.
The memorial was sculpted by G. Carnegie of Dundee and takes the form of a granite obelisk with a Celtic cross carved in relief on the south face. It was unveiled by Col. Ochterlony of the Guynd on April 11th 1920.
There are 30 names inscribed from WWI and 3 from WWII. The inscription on the south face reads as follows:
'IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF MEN FROM CARMYLLIE & DISTRICT WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WARS 1914-1918 1939-1945'
