The University of New Mexico's man campus is in Albuquerque. Your first stop here should be the UNM Visitor's Center, on the ground floor, SW corner of the Cornell Visitor Parking Structure, located near George Pearl Hall. It is on the far south side of campus, at Central Ave. and Cornell.
24,000 students attend classes at the main campus. 12,000 of these students attend night classes each semester.
UNM was established in the early 1890's. The football program began in 1892, and at that time the school colors were black and gold.
The colors have changed over the years, and the current set is cherry and silver.
The Lobo was established as the university's nickname in 1920. At one point a live wolf was used at games, but after he bit someone, the university stopped the practice. The two mascots are now Lobo Louie and Lobo Lucy, both members of the cheerleading squad.
UNM's Alma Mater is The New Mexico Hym (changed from a tune that the students did not care for).
There are several museums on campus: Geology Museum, Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, Southwest Biology Museum, and the University Art Museum.
The university offers over 210 degree and certification programs, including 94 bachelor's degrees, 74 master's degrees, and 40 doctoral programs.
