In the center of Father Padilla Memorial Park is a large dark grey obelisk honoring Father Padilla who was killed in 1542 by the indigenous Quiviran tribal warriors. A few yards from this famous monolith is a park swing mounted between two large oak trees. The pole that was attached to both trees to support the swing had been in place long enough for both trees to form a bark callus around these attached ends of that pole. One tree has "eaten" about 12 inches of the pipe, while the other tree has only "eaten" about 5 inches. The swing itself still has several feet of room for the chains holding the swing's seat to operate without threat of being "eaten."
