The dark field-green painted 25 pounder, sits on a small concrete pad beneath a corrugated iron shelter. A plastic-covered pictograph is mounted on a metal post, with a couple of faded photos from World War Two. The left-hand one is from Tel-el-eisa Egypt, 29 July 1942: "A 25 pounder gun crew of the 9th Australian Division in action. No. 2 rams home the shell while the gun number in the foreground waits to insert the charge." The right-hand photo is from Melkong River, New Britain, 20 February, 1945: "No. 2 gun (25 Pounder) of the 28th Battery, 2/14 Field Regiment, at full recoil during a bombardment of the Japanese positions in the Waitavelo Plantation. Note No. 2 ready to open the breech of the gun.

Beside the pictograph is a cast bronze plaque, mounted similarly on a metal post. The inscription is headed by an unfamiliar crest, with the following text beneath it:

"This 25 pdr. QF gun Mk 1/L, barrel no L1077, was manufactured in Melbourne at Ruwolt Foundries in 1942 and is of the type used by 2/12 Field Regiment RAA in New Guinea, Labuan Island and Borneo from August 1943 to March 1946. This regiment also saw action at Tobruck and El Alamein 1941-1943.
"Max range 12,250m. Weight in action 1814 kg. Gun Crew of 6.
"The shield signs signify the Ninth Division Artillery and a gun from DON Troop designated 'Shirley' in honour of Brigadier Shirley T. W. Goodwin, KIA 25 November 1943, the First Commanding Officer of 2/12 Field Regiment.
"RSL Laurieton Sub-Branch members who served with this Unit are:"
NX 116665 HL Maidment
