La paroisse Notre-Dame d'Anjou fut fondée 16 février 1959 par le cardinal Paul-Émile Léger (1904-1991), trois ans après la fondation de la ville d'Anjou.
L'église a été bâtie entre 1961 et 1964 selon les plans de l' architecte André Blouin.
L'église est bâtie dans le style foctionnel (moderne). Son architecture a été influencée par le concile Vatican 2 (IIe concile œcuménique du Vatican), une vaste entreprise d'ouverture sur la modernité de l’Église catholique qui s’est déroulée du 11 octobre 1962 au 8 décembre 1965. Une des principales conséquences pour les pratiquants fut un changement dans la liturgie qui s’est vite reflété dans la construction des nouvelles églises, proposant une nouvelle disposition des fidèles plus concentrique rendue possible par l’utilisation de matériaux plus souples et offrant une meilleure portance.
Anjou est un des dix-neuf arrondissements urbains et un quartier de la ville de Montréal, au Québec (Canada). Avant les réorganisations municipales québécoises de 2002, il était constitué d’Anjou, une ville fondée en 1956 à partir de la paroisse de Saint-Léonard-de-Port-Maurice.
Anjou a une superficie de 13,60 km² et une population de près de 42 000 habitants.

This Roman Catholic church is located on Place de l'Église in the borough of Anjou in Montreal, Quebec.
The parish of Notre-Dame d'Anjou was founded on February 16, 1959 by Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger (1904-1991), three years after the founding of the city of Anjou.
The church was built between 1961 and 1964 according to the plans of the architect André Blouin.
The church is built in functional (modern) style. Its architecture was influenced by the Vatican Council 2 (Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican), a vast undertaking of openness on the modernity of the Catholic Church which took place from October 11, 1962 to December 8, 1965. One of the main consequences for the practitioners was a change in the liturgy which was quickly reflected in the construction of the new churches, proposing a new arrangement of the faithful more concentric made possible by the use of softer materials and offering better lift.
Anjou is one of the nineteen urban districts and a district of the city of Montreal, in Quebec (Canada). Before the municipal reorganizations of Quebec in 2002, it consisted of Anjou, a city founded in 1956 from the parish of Saint-Léonard-de-Port-Maurice.
Anjou has an area of 13.60 km² and a population of nearly 42,000.
