The wetlands are located on land within a loop of the River Irwell.
The land around the Irwell has a history of flooding which occurred again in 2015 when a nearby flood basin was overwhelmed and nearby houses were flooded.
As a result this area of land was also converted into flood basin. High embankments have been built alongside the banks of the river and a network of footpaths added to the site. The northern end has also had a series of pools added as a permanent wetland area.
The information board has details of the species of birds and insects that may be spotted in the area.
