This is a simple plaque, for a very significant occasion at the end of War War One. The long bronze plaque, shaped like a ribbon, is below the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces crest, on the base of the World War One monument at the northern entrance to Laurieton. The base is of trachyte, with four white columns, and a white marble sculpture of "Peace", holding a wreath in her right hand. The monument was unveiled in November, 1924 [ex-Monuments Australia:

CENTENARY OF ARMISTICE 2018
By October 1918 many of the German military leaders realised that they were in a losing position, so they sent a delegation to the Commander of the Allied forces, Ferdinand Foch, to negotiate a settlement and end to the war. The document was signed before 6am on November 11, 1918, to take effect from 11am that day. While fighting then ended, the Treaty of Versailles - signed on 28 June 1919 - had be made to make the official end of hostilities.
